Introduction to a Future Physical Therapist

Hi guys! My name is Kaitlin Lutz and I am in the Mythology and Folklore class this semester. I thought writing a blog would be fun and a great way to get my last humanities credit out of the way. I am a Health and Exercise Science major and love what I study! Learning more about the human body and how it works is something that I have always enjoyed, and what has pushed me to choose physical therapy as my career choice.

Some fun facts about me are:
  • I've been to Germany twice, and plan on going again this summer for a month! I love Germany and have family that we visit as often as we can. I love to travel as a whole so while in Germany I plan on also traveling to Austria, France, and (hopefully!) England. I have a travel board in my room that lists all the places I hope to go and my ultimate dream before I die is to travel to each continent at least once!
My dad, boyfriend, aunt, and I at my favorite bakery in Kaiserslautern, DE (personal photo)
  • I am from Mustang, Oklahoma but I attended Bishop McGuinness High School.
Bailey (top) and Scooter (bottom) my dogs! (personal photo)
  • I have two dogs, an Aussie mix and an Anatolian Shepherd. They are both 9 years old and are still loving life! Scooter, the Aussie, was found in the streets when he was a puppy and Bailey, the shepherd, was adopted from Pets and People in Yukon after we had found Scooter. They are both tug-of-war and Frisbee aficionados!
  • I love to craft! I knit scarfs and am currently working on mastering knitting hats (which have proven to be difficult because they are a circular pattern instead of linear). I paint canvases for a lot of people for gifts. I think that homemade gifts are special and always love making something personal for the people in my life. Especially my boyfriend! We both love comics, anime, and movies so I have yet to run out of topics to paint for him!
  • I am a member of Alpha Omicron Pi and love being in a sorority. Although I am not the 'stereotypical' sorority girl, I have loved participating fully in sorority life! My little is traveling to Spain for the semester, and I am both overflowing with pride for her experiences and sad to have such a close friend out of my life for several months. But we have already scheduled Skype dates, which I can't wait for!
My family line at the zoo! (personal photo)
  • My favorite T.V. shows include: Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Gilmore Girls, and Parks and Recreation (as well as many others)
  • My favorite Movies include: Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Proposal, and My Fair Lady
  • My favorite Books include: Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter,  The Giver, and Dragonriders of Pern
My big dreams are to go to Physical Therapy school at Emory University and then finish with a residency in Portland, Oregon for pediatric physical therapy. I want to mostly work with performance artists, specifically dancers. I currently shadow at the OKC Ballet and that has been an amazing experience! I danced ballet for 16 years and try to take classes still when I have the time! This semester I am also shadowing a physical therapist at the Children's Hospital which I am very excited about.

My new goal for this year is to be a healthier person. My degree naturally inspires people to become active and to eat healthy. I love to cook (and bake) all kinds of foods. My boyfriend and I are aiming to home cook all of our meals this semester with just a few date nights out! I am also starting to run more and take more dance classes (yay!).

As a whole I am looking forward to this semester and learning new things!

  1. Hey Kaitlin! Bailey and Scooter are so cute; it must be fun to have two active dogs to play with! I agree the The Proposal is one of the best movies ever. It's totally underrated! I also love the Harry Potter books and movies. I've been meaning to find time to both rewatch and reread them, but the series is so long that it's such a big time commitment!

  2. Hi Kaitlin! First off, I love that your dog and I share the same name, AND that your first name is my middle name! I am a Health and Exercise minor and ended up not majoring in HES because I didn't think I could handle being a physical therapist and touching people so props to you! If you get the change to go to France this summer, I highly recommend that you see all the sights in Paris, they are gorgeous! I love Harry Potter as well and think it is so awesome that you are aspiring to be a healthier person this year! Can't wait to get to know you better this semester!

  3. Thanks for sharing that picture from Germany, Kaitlin! I bet the bakeries are wonderful! And your dogs are so cute. Playing Frisbee with dogs is so much fun! I can imagine all kinds of connections between your interests and mythology and folklore. Maybe you could do a project about stories with dancers or stories about dancing! There are so many famous myths and legends that are about dancing. Do you know this one? It was one of my favorites when I was little: The Twelve Dancing Princesses

  4. I really love we blog a lot in this class! It's been a great way to enhance my writing skills so far.
I'm so jealous you've been to Germany so many times! I've been to England and France, but would love to make it to Germany one day!
Your dogs are so cute. We found my dog in the streets as well and he's the best dog we've ever had.
I'm trying to be healthier this semester as well, but it's proving to be a lot harder than I thought. I love getting pizza with my friends, so that kind of ruins any healthy eating.

  5. First off, I love the title of your blog; it's so clever and a good way to include a part of you in the name! I respect you for wanting to be a physical therapist, because I have had to do physical therapy for a knee/leg injury and couldn't have done it without the help of my PTs.
I think it's so cool that you've been to Germany multiple times! I went to Europe for the first time last summer, and I would love the opportunity to go back.
Your dogs are so cute! I am a dog person, and specifically a big dog person.
I think it's so neat that you have such specific goals for the future. I am jealous because I have no idea where I want to end up! I hope you reach those goals!

  11. Hey Kaitlin,

It was very nice to get to know you through reading your introduction. I am from Mustang too haha, what a small world! I graduated in 2013, what year did you graduate? 12. Kaitlin,
First I would like to comment on the overall look of your blog; it's great! The fonts and the background picture make it look really smooth and professional. That is really cool you travel to Germany; I only had a lay over there briefly for half a day but would love to go visit there! I also love Harry Potter, but I could never really get as into the Lord of the Rings trilogy. That is also really cool you want to be a physical therapist! My step mom is a physical therapist and absolutely loves it!

  13. Hi Kaitlin! I was so excited to read your introduction because I am an HES major pursuing PT as well! Im incredibly jealous that you get to shadow at the Children's hospital! That sounds so fun. I hope to go into pediatrics as well, but I haven't completely made up my mind yet! I shadowed at JD McCarty last year and the kids were all so amazing and sweet. I think it is so great that you've gotten to travel so much too. Germany would be such a cool place to get to visit often! I like to travel too, and I just might have to steal your idea of making a travel board because it sounds so cute! Good luck with the rest of the semester!

  14. Hey Kaitlin! I really enjoyed reading your introduction and finding out a little more about you. I think that awesome you want to be a physical therapist since it is what I am passionate about as well. I never even thought about being a physical therapist for dancers though, that sounds like a ton of fun! Also, I hope you make it to Portland because it is such a cool city and I think you would like it a lot. I have some German in me and have always wanted to visit there before I die. If you go to Paris sign up to do a bike tour around the city, it is so much fun and a cool way to see Paris. I found out about it through the hostel I was staying at.

  15. I can not believe I have never seen your blog until now! I really enjoy it though. I think the theme is really cool. The background and font go great together. That is great you get to visit family you have in Germany. I made a close friend that is from Germany. I meet her my first year of college when I went to play soccer at a Community college in Kansas. I really hope I get to go visit her one day in Germany! Have a great summer and good luck with the rest of the semester. I will have to keep up with your blog now!

  16. Oh my gosh! It's so cool that you have family in Germany. I have family over there too. I love to visit them and have been over there a handful of times. I only wish flying wasn't so expensive. Which part of Germany are you from? My family is from Bavaria. Bavarians get way to much hate from the North, it really is a great place to visit and it has some beautiful nature.
