Overview for the Semester

Wow oh wow! All the readings you could ever want on mythology and folklore! For week 2 I have selected Saints and Animals to read. I was raised Catholic so I was always very intrigued at the lives of saints. This seems like a perfect way to continue that interest!

Other units that caught my attention were:

  • The Japanese Myths
    • I love Japanese culture and have read very little on their mythology so I think this will be a great opportunity to further my knowledge! I also think that there could be some very interesting crossovers from a Western perspective when looking also at Ozaki's versions of Japanese fairy tales.
  •  The Egyptian Myths
    • I have always wanted to travel to Egypt, and what better way to 'travel' there than read about it's history! I loved reading about Egyptian gods and goddesses when I was younger and can't wait to dive further into their culture.
  • Sinbad
    •  I loved watching the movie when I was younger with my dad. I think reading the original story will add just more love and rich history to the movie!
  •  The Brothers Grimm Stories
    • I am German and have lots of family in Germany so reading some of the original stories would be really cool! I haven't decided which section of the Grimm stories I would want to read, but all of them look like they have interesting stories!
